Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, attend the Easter Service at St George’s Chapel

The Duchess of Edinburgh and Sarah Ferguson may not be known to be the closest of friends, yet the pair showed off their bond on Easter Sunday as they attended the Mattins service at St George’s Chapel. The two women, who are just five years apart at 60 and 65 respectively, were beaming as they joined the rest of the royal family for the occasion. Prince Edward, who has been married to Sophie for 25 years, was in high spirits as he walked side-by-side with their son, James, Earl of Wessex. Meanwhile Fergie was in attendance alongside her ex-husband Prince Andrew as well as their two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, both of whom were joined by their husbands Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank for the occasion.

Yet it was Sophie and Sarah Ferguson who appeared to show off their close bond during the outing, with the former sister-in-laws walking side by side as they left the service at Windsor Castle. The two women appeared to briefly hold hands as they chatted animatedly to one another, before Sophie wrapped an arm around Fergie.

While little is known about the friendship shared between the two, they have known each other for decades. Both women have adapted to their almost unique positions; neither were born into royalty, and ultimately married brothers who were sons of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
