We might end up with one cheap food item from this mess, I guess.
Canada does nice pork I hear
I guess the ingredients for his “lavish” Super Bowl-winner-dinners are covered for years now.
China didn’t muck around finding themselves a new supplier I see
If conservatives knew what the metric system was, they might be mad about this
Woohoo cheap meat!
We need an infographic with running totals of the billions trump is losing the stock market, various business sectors like agriculture/defense/auto/tech/etc, and 401ks.
Ya know – so we can see all the ‘winning’ in cold hard cash amounts.
It’s ok, we will just sell our pork to Israel!
12k tonnes of cancelled pig meat? So Trump and his cabinet?
12k tons of pork and 250k tons of beef.
The Chinese people are not going to be happy.
China is one of the largest pork consumers.
Heck, China owns Smithfield hams in the USA.
I wish Canadian politicians would stand up to the Fascist States of America like the Chinese are doing.
How did China suddenly become the world’s hero?
FYI: China consumes ~59M tons of pork per year, importing ~1.55M tons. USA on average exports ~3M tons pork/year. 12k out of 3M = 0.4% and 12k out of 475k= 2.5%. All things being equal: big winner here is Japan and Mexico, who theoretically get 0.4% relative discount on pork prices.
As a person with dual Australian and Canadian citizenship, I know where China can find suppliers of beef and pork.
And this is just a small cancelation. It represents only 2.5% of their yearly import. This is China trying to flex its muscle to the U.S.
We’ve all had enough of American pigs.
That’s about 200,000 pigs americans cant sell to china. That is going to ruin some farmers.
Yo…Trump is fucking up!
$1 pork butts soon
Bacon will drop
Sounds like a job for Liz ‘Pork Markets’ Truss! This is her day!
So, dumb economic question because I’m curious but if we’re suddenly not exporting a lot of meat products doesn’t that mean the price of it here is going to drop because we suddenly have a surplus or were these orders so far out that it wasn’t as though we had the pork ready at hand?
Great now he bankrupts farmers and we have to use billions in taxpayer dollars to subsidize them
One of the factors affecting any plan on China’s part to invade Taiwan (and there are many: it would be the most ambitious amphibious assault in history) would be dependency on importing goods and supplies including meat and animal feed.
Do they need the US for this anymore, or have they developed supply chains with other countries that take the US out of this calculus?
Imagine if this was Biden. He’d have already stepped down.
People in China are crying about the price of beef and pork being too expensive so they are forgoing meat. Hopefully this means cheaper prices in the USA.
Suddenly, I’m in the mood for some thick cut bacon.

So they canceled about 0.2% of their orders.
