Protesters gathered at the Governor’s mansion Saturday to
send a message to Governor Josh Stein about climate concerns.

The event was organized by NC WARN, and more than a dozen
other groups attended.

Duke Energy is catching heat from these groups with many
demonstrators accusing the company of expanding fossil fuel and blocking
the growth of solar power.

“Scientists have been calling for Governor Stein to step up
and take decisive action and stop Duke Energy from expanding fossil fuels and
preventing and blocking the growth of renewable power,” said Jim Warren with NC
WARN. “People are hurting, and the nation is starving for somebody at the state
level to step up on the climate crisis and cut back on these corporate
polluters.

WRAL reached out to Duke Energy about the demonstration. The
company sent the following statement:

“We are committed to our customers and communities and will
continue working with policymakers, regulators and other state leaders to
deliver reliable and increasingly clean energy while keeping rates as low as
possible.”
