Louis Linster secured his second Michelin star on Monday during the annual launch ceremony of the Belgium and Luxembourg edition of the famous fine dining guide, with more restaurants awarded for their outstanding cuisine.

Linster, runs his mother Léa Linster’s eponymous restaurants in Frisange together with his partner Njomza Musli. Léa Linster received her first Michelin star in 1987, two years after winning the Bocuse d’Or. Now, at the age of 34, her son has added a second star.

The young chef joins Cyril Molard, the owner of Ma Langue Sourit, the Grand Duchy’s only other double Michelin-starred restaurant.

Linster “has crossed a new threshold of quality,” said the Michelin Guide in its press release. “The classic finesse and elegance that have been the hallmark of this establishment for decades have been subtly transformed under his leadership, giving way to more refined, contemporary dishes that are judiciously enhanced by a few exotic flavours. The high-level sauces devised by the chef add another dimension to each dish. By winning two Michelin stars, Louis Linster has made gastronomy shine a little brighter in this particularly touching family restaurant.”

First star for Clovis Degrave

Three Luxembourg restaurants received their first Michelin star in the 2025 edition of the famous red gastronomic guide.

First up was Clovis Degrave, owner of the Hostellerie du Grünewald in Dommeldange together with his partner Aline Bourscheid. Degrave in 2024 was named Luxembourg’s Young Chef of the Year by Gault&Millau. The 35-year-old raised the eatery to join the closed circle of Michelin-starred restaurants in the country.

These include Mosconi, Ryôdô, Fani, Guillou Campagne and Apdikt, the latest to be awarded, in 2024. The Pavillon Eden Rose in Kayl, which closed a few months ago, has disappeared from the Michelin guide, unlike La Villa de Camille et Julien, which remains open pending the forthcoming closure announced by its management.

René Mathieu and Archibald De Prince legacy

René Mathieu was famously Michelin-starred for his plant-based restaurant La Distillerie at Bourglinster Castle. He secured his first star for Fields, his new project, which opened in mid-January near Findel airport.

And as emotion never comes alone, René Mathieu had the honour of opening the envelope and pronouncing the name of his compatriot Archibald De Prince, another chef based in the Grand Duchy.

Finally, fellow Belgian national Archibald De Prance received a gong for having successfully taken over a hotel-restaurant in Echternach, called “Archibald De Prince – Table et Chambres” together with his wife Rachel. Opened last November, the Archibald De Prince restaurant was immediately recognised by the Michelin Guide.

“He was my second-in-command for eight years, and now he’s flying solo. I’m really happy for them,” said Mathieu. The man who was crowned the world’s best vegetarian chef also won a green star on Monday, which rewards sustainable cooking in particular.

An award-winning restaurant in the province of Luxembourg

François-Xavier Simon is one of the rising stars of Belgian gastronomy. Crowned Young Chef of the Year in Wallonia last year by Gault&Millau, his restaurant Bistrot Blaise in Marche-en-Famenne, some 50km from Luxembourg was awarded its first Michelin star on Monday.
