Absolutely despicable, but not entirely unexpected.
Wow what a confusing title. Made more confusing by the ‘airman’ in the article being a women and the crash not being an airplane crash (as I assumed). The TLDR is this person killed someone in traffic, and the victim’s husband retaliated by stabbing her.
Wat een oogaids, weggerend….
A fair decision by the judge. She was found guilty if negligent homicide.
– it happened in Eindhoven
– She didn’t slow down and yield to a cyclist. Reason unknown
– The cyclist died in hospital
– The widower of the cyclist was overcome with grief
– The widower stalked and threatened her for months
– the widower stabbed her a hundred times in retaliation for the death of his wife
– He later committed suicide
– she spent time in hospital and has psychological trauma as a result of all of this.
The court took all of that into account when determining the sentence and deciding not to demote. As far as I can see other than the moment at the crossing there was nothing in her actions that demanded the demotion as a punishment.
This is a tragic accident. Yesterday in Hilversum I saw an old lady miss a young girl on a bike path by centimeters. The old lady was almost crying in the car. She somehow hadn’t seen the girl. It could have been a similar case.
An American woman named Wright, hit and killed a Dutch woman with her car. The husband of the victim then stalked Wright, stabbed her ‘over a 100 times’, and killed himself not much later.
Wright is then NOT demoted because the stabbing was ‘punishment enough’.
On the one hand, having an American not be punished for killing a civilian is very typical. On the other hand, she gets to go home and enjoy her PTSD at home with the certified American Health Care experience.
This might sound harsh but if you stab someone for over a hundred times and you still didn’t kill that person, you’re doing something wrong.
Veel leed aan beide kanten. Dit verhaal kent alleen maar verliezers. Ik kan me enigzins vinden in het oordeel van deze rechter dat deze Amerikaanse door die brute aanval al genoeg gestraft is.
