The project will support, among other things, two Latvian-led technology development project applications – READYMED EUROPE for the development of a medical training simulator (the consortium is led by the Latvian company SIA “Exonicus R&D”), as well as the VANTAGE small-class unmanned aerial system advanced prototype development project (the consortium is led by the Latvian company SIA “LMT”).
“In terms of attracted EC funding, 2025 is the most successful year for Latvia so far, as it has managed to achieve a 50% increase compared to 2024. EC funding will provide new valuable opportunities for Latvian companies, allowing them to strengthen their competence, competitiveness and integration into international supply chains in the field of defence. Each successful participation in an EDF project in the capacity of a consortium member or subcontractor can open up additional opportunities for companies for future innovation cooperation, therefore the increasing ability of Latvian companies to take the lead in managing cross-border projects is welcome,” said Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds.
In nine innovation projects in all, Latvian companies are applying for a total of approximately 7 million euros in EC co-financing, but national co-financing of approximately 1.2 million euros is also required.
The Ministry of Defence will review the companies’ applications and decide on the amount of possible co-financing by the ministry for each project, taking into account the usability of the expected results of the projects for the needs of the National Armed Forces.
