Washington signs historic rare earths minerals deal with Ukraine

1. We’re going to sell our land in order to finance a war to defend our land against an invading force, effectively now in debt and dying for something that we no longer even own … is such an odd concept to reconcile yet apparently everyone seems to be fine with it.

   I’m fairly sure none of the actual Ukrainian people have been asked whether they agree to pawn off their sovereign treasures in such a manner. So it’s more like Washington signs a historic deal with the current Ukrainian government, rather than just Ukraine. Just two dudes doing a business transaction with a thing that belongs to collectively everyone, on their behalf.

2. Why is this story being framed in a positive way as “historic”?

   Headline should read:

   ‘World power extorts mineral-rich country while threatening to withdraw military support during a war’

   The US is behaving like the Mafia. Though at least the Mafia has some code of conduct.

3. With friends like these, who needs enemies.

   I know he’s not a strategic thinker, but Trump can’t possibly think US will be in a position to actually get anything out of this (even with a 3rd term).

4. This is nice and all, but Russia controls most of the richest rare earth deposits in Ukraine. And China dominates both the extraction and especially refining of rare earths. So how much does this really change on the ground? You kinda still need Russia to make the most of this. China will have to be involved too.

   It’s good for mining companies, for the deposits in other parts of Ukraine. I’m not sure it achieves much for anyone else.

5. Get conscripted risking yourlife to defend your country by fighting the invading forces just to end up your government selling out the country to other country..

   At this point why even trying to defend if its gonna end up like this.

6. Can someone explain to me like I’m 5yrs old, WHY ON EARTH Ukraine would enter into this deal?

   Ever since Dump tried to embarrass/railroad Zelensky at the WH a couple months ago, European leaders have stepped up to support Ukraine, so i don’t see the need for further US assistance…ESPECIALLY since it’s obvious that Dump can be trusted to keep his promises as well as Putin does. It’s also obvious that Dump has zero influence or control over Russia. So why give the US half of their minerals? I just can’t wrap my head around this decision.

7. Welp. Western imperialism at work here; how to throw Ukraine under the bus but also make sure they are your puppet.

   Pretty sad this. Good job the US
