Brauna was nominated by the Board of the Latvian Public Service Media, and SEPLP’s decision to confirm Brauna was taken after hearing the Board and the nominee herself.
Brauna will take up her duties on 1 June. The term of office is five years.
With Brauna’s appointment, two existing positions – Editor-in-Chief of Latvian Television and Editor-in-Chief of Latvian Radio – will be abolished.
The Law on Public Electronic Media and their Management (SEPLPL) stipulates that the Editor-in-Chief is the person responsible for the formulation and implementation of the editorial policy of the public service media and is responsible for the editorial decisions of the public service media. The editor-in-chief is independent of the management board of the public service media in editorial decision-making.
Brauna has a wide and varied experience in the media industry – from her work as a reporter to implementing content management processes at the newspaper “Diena”, Latvian Television and TV3 News Services, as well as acting as the Editor-in-Chief of Latvian Radio. She was one of the founders of the magazine “Ir”, and established the Investigative Journalism Department of Latvian Radio.
She has received several awards for her work, including the Latvian Association of Journalists’ Excellence Award for Editor of the Year in 2020.
