TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) – With hundreds of thousands of views, Trussville Police Officers are using a unique approach posting stern warnings to any would-be thieves on social media showing how they address shoplifting.
“It makes you proud, it makes you feel safe,” said Craig Giattina, owner of Grant’s Tools and Hobby Shop.
The videos have some local business owners like Giattina feeling more secure, saying the zero tolerance approach to shoplifting helps prevent them from losing valuable merchandise.
“It could just put a small business out and it doesn’t matter if it’s a small item or a large item, it’s wrong, it’s crooked, it’s illegal, and it needs to be stopped,” Giattina said.
Giattina says the crack down on crooks couldn’t have come at a better time, with tariffs on goods putting even more strain on local businesses.
“Nobody realizes it, you want to reorder that right now with the tariffs and stuff it’s a little bit tough getting it back in so you’re losing almost double, it’s very bad,” Giattina said.
Giattina also applauds other measures Trussville has taken to protect those in the city.
”The way that the city has done it is just impressive with cameras everywhere. With Trussville being aggressive, if that’s what you want to call it more power to them, I agree with it 100% I think it’s wonderful.”
