VÆB told Icelandic media that they are very satisfied after their first rehearsal in Basel on Saturday.

After their first rehearsal on Saturday, which kicked off rehearsals week, VÆB told RÚV that they felt satisfied, claiming that “everything went perfectly! We’re only realising now that we’re in Eurovision”.

The rest of the delegation shares their point of view, with Rúnar Freyr Gíslason, Head of Media for Iceland, stating that the “artists did excellent work with a few details to change”. He also wanted to salute SRG SSR for their ability to listen the suggestions.

For Selma Björnsdóttir, the staging director, the two brothers were very confident on stage, adding the result was better then expected.

Iceland will rehearse again on Wednesday.

VÆB will represent Iceland in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Róa”. They will open the first semi-final on May 13.

We had the chance to speak with VÆB at the London Eurovision Party. You can watch the interview here:

Iceland debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1986 and, aside from 2 years of relegation in 1998 and 2002, has participated every year since. The contest is incredibly popular in Iceland, regularly being one of the most-watched programs of the year. Iceland has yet to win the contest but has finished in 2nd on two occasions. In 1999, Selma missed out on victory in Jerusalem by 17 points, and in 2009 Yohanna became the most successful Icelandic entrant ever finishing 2nd in the final with the song “Is it True?”. She scored 218 points, yet still finished 169 points behind the runaway winner Norway.
