I can’t begin to imagine who would pay this vs going to a hostel where you’d at least have a real mattress and it would be actually designed for “a young traveller”
Not sure why someone travelling would choose to sleep there rather than a hostel. Surely this is more money for less comfort?
Probably reflects the owner/tenant’s situation more than anything. Must be a pretty desperate attempt to keep up with the mortgage/rent by offering out an airbed in their lounge for £60 a night.
To be fair, it is RIGHT next to a major tube station in zone 1, but an air mattress??? Come on.
60 quids sleeping on an air mattress, Nein, Danke. How ridiculous is that really ..
They’re allowing their own dogs to stay with the guests? That’s a little odd, no?
Not ideal, but very cheap for that location.
So you’re sleeping in the dog room?
No one is forcing you to sleep there

Well this is why AirBnB has air in the name, it was originally for renting out space on airbeds.
That sofa looks like a sofa bed to me
Just to add some context, the platform like AirbNB takes a cut of 30% meaning the owner only gets £42.
Hence they think the price is acceptable (£1200/m, cheap for London!)
Actually back to Airbnb’s roots ey
Imagine being a “young traveller” means you need to put up about being treated like shite
When I was in between two rentals I slept at a holiday inn for £70/night.
**Edit: you can sleep in a premier inn in Canary Wharf for £49**
That’s the original purpose of the AirBed&Breakfast website now known as Airbnb.
I stayed like this in 2013 in France. Airbed in living room. I knew from the website name!
In Patrick fucking Bateman’s apartment, apparently. Why is it so bleak?
I’ve actually stayed in this AirBnB. Reason I picked this over a hostel was 1. location: this was exactly the area I needed to be. All the hostels in the area are quite a ways from here. 2. Availability. Hostels at a similar price point were all booked and hotels nearby were WAY more the £60.
TBF the host realizes it’s a bit of an odd posting, and tries hard to make it comfortable and pleasant. They are very pleasant, and in the end wasn’t weird at all. The air mattress is not bad, I’ve definitely slept on worse mattresses.
Basically, to people used to getting spas through AirBnB this seems super random. But if you think about it more like crashing with a mate of yours and paying them back with a nice bottle of wine, it’s not all that different.
Did they even specify where that air mattress is located? Room, living room, hall or by the dog’s bed?
£60 a night for that is actually wild
Definitely not a ‘sofa bed’. Cheap-ass Ikea and way too shallow to house the mechanics of a sofa bed along with a mattress. Wondering whether the £60 was for 2 people because if it were for one, why not just sleep on the couch. At least you wouldn’t have dogs trampling over you.
Looked up this place out of curiosity https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/1245634560003052778 . Looking at the reviews people seem to be happy so don’t see the problem with it really. Airbed is not ideal but some people do enjoy staying with hosts rather than just staying in a generic hotel room and the dogs are probably a bonus for some as well.
my couchsurfers were living large compared to this. all that cash left on the table. a small price to retain my soul i s’pose.
I like how on top of all the rubbish they use “near the historic Smithfield market” as a selling point.
Cue tourists thinking “ooh I can check out some vintage clothes and knick-knacks” only to find it’s just animal carcasses and closed at 6am.
And now is closed completely
i mean, have you checked the prices for accomodation, esp. during the holiday/summer season? i’d rather sleep on an air matress in a shared living room, than in a dorm with bunk beds and 12 other people, for the same price.
Air BnB?!
“really cute pups” sounds like some gay kinky code language.
Nicer than the B+B I booked via booking.com! The website showed the front view of a nice looking semi-detached house in London, when I arrived about 10pm (too late to do anything) It turned out the so called ‘room’ was actually a mattress on top of wooden pallets in a bloody garage! An old wooden tea chest had a kettle of water and teabags etc. The loo was outside, where there was also a washbasin.
I complained to booking.com the next day hoping to get a refund, but all I got was: “If it had a mattress in it, then technically it was not a garage but a room, and they refused to give me a refund. I vowed never to use that website again, and I never have.
Must be about 5 years ago now. Even now, they only have 2.5 star rating on Trustpilot. I would advise anyone thinking of using them to think again. Probably OK if all goes smoothly, but they don’t give a shit if you are not happy.
I think this is a pretty good offer actually. I think people have missed that this is in an actually nice apartment and has puppies. I’d much rather stay here than in a hostel.
Hub by Premiere Inn in Shoreditch is cheaper.. these people are on crack
In what way is sleeping on an air mattress ideal for young travellers?
These ppl are insane!!
That’s where Air BnB got its start… air beds! (albeit probably less than £60 a night).
If you’re not too precious, I recommend The Gresham Hotel… as cheap as you’ll get in central London (behind the British Museum) but prepare to share a bathroom.

Door to the bedroom is behind the sofa, please request access with at least half an hour notice. Surcharges for excess usage.
Mandatory to sit on the sofa and watch the empty tv stand for at least 4 hours a week.
Is for travelers. And if includes petting two dogs. IS A BARGAIN!! Count me in
Travelodge exists for a reason!
The “London City” one is actually quite nice, too.
Certainly better than this setup.
I wonder how long till the tempered glass TV stand fails with the other stand on top of it..
Otherwise cute dogs!
how can it be next to Farringdon and Blackfriars, they’re nowhere near eachother!
I’d absolutely message them asking “is it central”
They and their dog can both f. off
Imagine if this is who you REALLY are staying with….
