Eluned Morgan reportedly due to essentially relaunch 'clear red water' in a speech today. BBC reporting the phrase 'the red Welsh way' will be used to position Welsh Labour to the left of its UK counterpart and as more pro devolution.

Assuming most people will see it as an empty platitude, unless she is actually able to win any concessions from Westminster.

  1. The problem with Welsh Labour is that they won’t stray too far from the national Labour Party – so unless Eluned Morgan is going to come with a very significant change in policy and direction and effectively turn Welsh Labour into its own party, then, yes, these will be just platitudes and ultimately not help Labour (Welsh or national) against Reform.

  2. Starmer’s unpopularity is existential for them now and looks like it’ll end over 100 years of Labour dominance in Wales.

If they literally split from the main UK party (not even sure they could), they might squeak out a better result, but I highly doubt they’ll do that.

  3. It’s all very “we’ll see how the local elections go in england and then change strategy if labour’s losing votes”

I am glad to see it bc we do need more pushback / pressure on UK labour, but it’s a bit too late for me… don’t really trust that she actually disagrees with things

    I’ll be voting plaid

  4. Large opinion poll also expected to be published on ITV Wales’s The Sharp End tonight.

  5. Oh christ, I initially missed this bit.

“Ms Morgan, who is a Gavin and Stacey fan, is expected to compare Labour in England and Wales to the beloved sitcom – saying what works in Essex may not work in Barry.”

Please can Labour politicians stop invoking Gavin and Stacey to try and relate to Wales. It was bad enough when Starmer did it for St David’s Day, I’d expect better from someone actually from here.

  6. What time and where? Why do they rarely give this damned detail.

  7. Desperately trying to avoid a Reform landslide in Wales next year
