Apeldoorn and Burlington first became twin cities 20 years ago, and are celebrating Canada Netherlands Friendship Day this month
Burlington’s veterans, Legion members, and residents are invited to celebrate Canada Netherlands Friendship Day on Saturday, May 24.
All veterans and Legion members are welcome to attend the event to remember the Liberation of the Netherlands by Canadian service people in 1944 and 1945.
Starting at 10 a.m., the Royal Canadian Legion will welcome visitors to the LaSalle Park Pavllion. It also marks the 20th anniversary of the city’s twinning with Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
Mayor Marianne Meed Ward and Harman Idema, the Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, as well as former Deputy Premier Elizabeth Witmer will speak at the event, before the Burlington Teen Tour Band and Enchorus Children’s Choir perform.
A special exhibit of artwork created by Burlington and Apeldoorn elementary school students will also be on display.
