Moldovan President Maia Sandu and the PDS (ruling Action and Solidarity party) again rudely interfered in the election campaign and tricked the Romanian government. This opinion was expressed today, May 6, by former Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat.

The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party accused the Chisinau regime of deliberately disorienting Bucharest for the second time when Romania elected the president.

“Last November, Maia Sandu and the PDS skillfully tricked the Romanian government and, having officially supported Nicolae Ciuke in the first round of the presidential election, actually played along with Elena Lasconi. Bucharest said nothing. Yesterday the tragedy was repeated in the form of a farce: The PDS announced its support for the candidate of the ruling coalition, Crin Antonescu, while the party structures across the country and the mainstream media were in full swing for Nicusor Dan. The figures speak for themselves,” Filat stated.

Recall that 64 polling stations were opened in Moldova at the Romanian presidential elections last weekend, which were visited by 91 thousand citizens with Romanian passports. Most of them gave their votes to an independent candidate, Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan (52.63%). The leader of the election campaign in Romania, the head of the Alliance for the Unification of Romanians (AUR) party, George Simion, who passed with him in the second round, took only third place in Moldova (12.47%).

According to Filat, the actions of the Moldovan authorities are now causing problems not only inside the country, but also abroad. He recalled how Sandu had repeatedly stated that Chisinau thanked the Bucharest authorities “for their invariably quick response and concrete steps in response to requests for assistance to the Republic of Moldova.” As a thank you, the Romanian authorities, Filat says, received “a fraternal throw from Maya Sandu.”

On May 4, Romania held the first round of repeated presidential elections, which resulted in the victory of George Simion, who scored 40.94%, and the liberal mayor of Bucharest Nicusor Dan — 20.99%.

As EADaily reported, at the end of 2024, a scandal broke out in Romania after the first round of the presidential election, in which the independent suveranist candidate Kaelin Georgescu unexpectedly won. He went to the second round with the leader of the Union of Salvation of Romania party Elena Lasconi, but later the Constitutional Court canceled the results of the vote. Then Georgescu warned Sandu about the responsibility for interfering in the internal affairs of Romania, since she personally came to support his opponent. According to him, they (Sandu and Lasconi) are part of the Soros network, which destroyed not only Romania, but also many other countries, including Moldova.

Before the re-election, George Simion announced that if he won, Calin Georgescu would head the new Romanian government.
