a bit of a ‘no shit sherlock’ observation really. not enough is being done to bring down cost of housing in London. Build build build! Khan’s been in power for nine years and it’s his most glaring failure. Every day he should be thinking ‘how do I make London more affordable to the average joe’
I couldn’t read the article because it seems the web devs at the standard are actively hostile to site visitors.
But from the headline, my instant reaction is “well duh”.
There needs to be a tipping point. Hopefully this brings us closer to it.
It feels as though all MPs and politicans are allergic to the one thing that would actually keep families in central, build more social housing!
>Family seeking housing in Camden offered a place in Manchester
Just despicable. Like what they did to the Grenfell victims – you can’t just take people from all that they know, their community, their network, their safety net and lump them in a city with 0 connections ffs.
I think the school closure issue is a lot more nuanced than the MP suggests. It’s not all about families moving out. You also have couples electing to have smaller families, or even no children at all, due to general cost increases, especially childcare costs. Then you have gentrification pushing out cultures which traditionally have larger families and favouring middle class DINKs.
And it doesn’t take much to render a school superfluous either. A small school will have an intake of around 30 new pupils a year. So the birth rate only has to drop by 30 births to make that school surplus to requirements. Even the largest schools only take in 100 or so per year.
This is news?
Good, people should move out of London
No one can afford schitt. Meanwhile, Labour hates fkn everyone and is now trying to outsource cheaper workers from fkn India.

[Florence Eshalomi is on the record opposing permitted development rights to convert outdated space to residential use.](https://www.london.gov.uk/press-releases/assembly/florence-eshalomi-mp/permitted-development-a-threat-to-our-high-streets) Meanwhile, Lambeth Council’s own documents show that [it has failed to meet its housing targets for three years in a row](https://www.lambeth.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2024-04/Housing%20development%20pipeline%20report%202022-23.pdf).
I wonder why it’s so expensive to stay in London…
A stunning revelation
