Yesterday our dryer decided to eat an aglet from some of my wife's clothes and started making a grinding noise as it was caught between the drum and the chassis.
So I opened it up to retrieve it and was stunned by the amount of dryer lint inside the body. 100% a fire risk.
We regularly empty the lint catcher so naively thought we were all good.
I didn't think to take a picture of mine, the above is just an image from google. Ours was nowhere near that bad, but still a fire hazard.
So yeh, go open your dryer up folks.

Read that as Eaglet and wondered how hungry your tumble dryer was getting
My dryer is clean thanks mate
I’ll bear this in mind. We all need to consider fire risks more. My question on this specifically is, do we need to worry about washer-dryers? I have a Bosch one that only has a water filter, not a lint one. But it has a dryer mode – so where does the lint go?
Strong use of aglet. They’re important.
I’ll be doing mine in a few weeks when it gets moved. I changed the hose last year and that was bad enough.
I’ve had mine for 15 years . I suppose I better check ..
We had the same issue and couldn’t believe it
Would this also be the case for heat pump dryers? I genuinely have no clue lol but my dryer is struggling to get stuff dry and finish the cycle at all. I’ll have to open it and see, but if anyone knows before I do that, that would be great 🙂
EDIT: just saw your comment stating this is a heat pump dryer. Well, I know what I’m doing tonight lmao
I learned this when my tumble dryer caught fire. Luckily I just went full caveman and carried it outside and chucked it in the driveway. Manliest I’ve ever been.
Wtf, my last one lasted 10 years and it didn’t look anything like that
It’s not supposed to do that, definitely worth a check though as that’s a fire hazard! I had to replace the doorlock on our Miele (wait for it, I’m not made of money…) a few years ago and it was pristine inside and had a full service guidebook inside it, but no lint.
It’s a downsizing giveaway from my wife’s grandparents and will celebrate its 40th in a couple of years.
