Laura Thorn is a Luxembourgish singer and multi-instrumentalist who began her musical studies at age eight, learning music theory, piano, cello, and dance. Initially focused on classical music, she later earned a master’s degree in music theory, music pedagogy, and modern singing at the Higher Institute of Music and Pedagogy (IMEP) in Namur, Belgium. In September 2024, after completing her studies, she started teaching at the Esch-sur-Alzette Conservatory of Music in Luxembourg.
In 2024, Parisian producers Julien Salvia and Ludovic-Alexandre Vidal, in search of a vocalist for their new track, invited her to perform their composition—later titled “La poupée monte le son”—upon recommendation. The song participated in the Luxembourg Song Contest 2025, the national selection for Eurovision, where she emerged as one of seven finalists. In the Luxembourg National Final, she earned the highest marks from the international juries and placed second in the televote, securing her win and the chance to represent Luxembourg at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. Thorn’s musical style draws from soul, jazz, cabaret, and musical theatre, and her Eurovision entry pays homage to France Gall’s 1965 Eurovision-winning hit “Poupée de cire, poupée de son,” while exploring themes of autonomy and empowerment.
The rehearsal
Laura’s rehearsal featured a vibrant 1960s-style dollhouse in pink and red, where animated hands repositioned her during the opening. She was joined by five male dancers in red velvet suits, similar to those seen in the national final, though now with a more refined routine. Their choreography gently transformed her stiff, doll-like movements into more fluid, human expressions.
In the second verse, Laura led the dancers out of the dollhouse and down the walkway, transitioning the performance to the frame stage for the final section. Her costume had also evolved – the original pink doll dress was replaced with a more elegant pale pink version featuring corset lacing and silver thigh boots. During the middle eight, she changed into a sparkly silver dress.
