  1. I feel like I could of got more outta 40k, whoevers manufactured that is the real winner in this story 💰

  2. In the republic that arch would have cost 1.5 million to complete.

  3. how staunch. money well spent lads just in case anyone on the shankill forgot soldiers exist.

  4. These arches are really cringe and a huge waste of money too

Unionists condemn Irish Language spending but not this, just more typical double standards

  5. Flegologists… what’s second from the left?

(Some kind of army fleg given the theme, and with a naval ensign and an RAFfy fleg further over?)

  6. I don’t really understand why people are so annoyed about this. I’m a nationalist from West and if this makes the people of Shankill Road happy and proud of their area then i support it. Would rather this than spending 40k on pallets to burn down to the ground. Yes i think its a bit tacky looking but if it gets footfall from tourists to the local business then fair play. I’m actually more upset at the Bobby Sands statue that was erected without planning permission and i have a picture of the man in my living room.

  7. Jamie Bryson and Jim Alister must be very upset this money hasn’t been spent on the NHS, oh no wait it’s only taigy projects that should have funds diverted.

  8. It’s appropriate since the Shankill still looks like it’s 1945.

  9. ” we shall stomp on your language and right to exist, with our subjugation and sycophancy. It is the wayyyy . . . “

  10. The arches they had used for some royal event in the late 1890s was quite fancy to look at.

This is for VE day so and ifs it community funded then can’t have too many complaints.

Other side of the fence have parks and such named after their own ‘volunteers/terrorists’ so it’s amusing to see the distain on here

  11. The value is for what it stands for. Not what it’s worth in materials. You can’t put a price on a community’s heritage.

  12. NI Reddit; Bobby Sands statue without planning permission – silence…

Also NI Reddit; Arch for VE day – HOW DARE THEY

  13. They got an eyesore of an arch, the good people of Twinbrook got a eyesore of a statue. Swings and roundabouts 😏

  14. But but but but spending money on Irish signage is a waste of money!

  15. That could have paid the salary of a full time youth project manager for a year. Jesus wept.

  16. Wonder how many people went without 3 full meals in the shankill today?

Still, I’m glad £2k was spent on this thing and £38k went to the paras

  17. What does it depict? All the best hiding spots in the shipyard?

  18. Haha haha haha hahah that must be 40k for the 40 thousand orange order men that refused to go to war.

  19. Dam I need to start a business selling this shite signs

  20. A weekend selling gear will pay that in not time
