Syria: Israel strikes near Damascus presidential palace over Druze violence • FRANCE 24 English

As security ramps up in the Drews majority city of Saya, Israeli military strikes have hit near Syria’s presidential palace. A final warning to protect the religious minority. I call on the international community to fulfill its role in protecting the minorities in Syria, especially the Drews from the regime and its gangs of terror. and not to turn a blind eye to the tough events taking place there over the recent months. The strike comes after days of deadly clashes between Islamist armed fractions, security forces, and Drew’s gunmen. Another sign of the continuing fragility of Syria’s security situation after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad. There were violent clashes between us and our Drew brothers. And thank God they were resolved safely. Up until now, things are fine. The Drews are against what happened. I live here across the main street. I saw everything. It was like a horror movie. Watching on in horror, displaced Alawites who fled coastal regions in March after hundreds of people belonging to the minority were killed. The regime had fallen on the basis that there would be no sectarianism, that we would be one people. I don’t know what is happening. Why this killing? Why this attack on the Jews? Why this attack on the Alawites? There is no need for all of this. Fears have hardened among minority groups about the now dominant Islamists.
