Yeah, sure..
Think I’ll wait until someone other than the leader of Russians fighting for Ukraine is saying this before I pay attention
The situation for Russia is getting worse quickly and may be reaching the point of no return strategically / economically but someone so utterly opposed to Putin saying this is likely the same thing they were saying in 2022.
The Russian people by and large don’t give a flying fuck about the war or anything else. They’re used to being told their culture is superior, that the west is decadent and corrupt, that they’re the natural rulers of the world by right of blood and it’s only because the west has corrupted all the other nations with foolish notions of self determination (which they don’t believe – they think the west controls everyone else’s governments) that has prevented them from this divine destiny.
They ain’t rising up against Jack shit. They want this.
Anything short of the breakup of Russia into component states for multiple generations will fail to correct this.
Any minute now….
Russian people support the war in Ukraine, they just dont want to be there. Thats all.

i think the russian people have proven to be pretty complicit in this war and too cowardly to fight for change against putin.
russian people enjoying this war more than putin himself
He jails legitimate opponents and the rest fall out of windows. I can only hope he lives a paranoid life, always concerned someone might get him.
Oh, this sub has turned into r/wishfulthinking again?
I highly doubt this will happen, except if Russia suffers a catastrophic defeat in Ukraine. Like Ukraine liberating all occupied territories while simultaneously capturing tens of thousands of Russian soldiers as POWs + Ukraine advancing rapidly in the Kursk Region and maybe a doomsday like economic crisis in Russia happens at the same time?
The sad truth is that a majority of Russians support Putin. He is a paranoid dictator and has purged a lot of people recently and those that weren’t purged are the oligarchs who damn well know that everything they have depends on Putin staying in power.
Right now, Russia is exceptionally stable because they are getting support from China and have been able to avoid total disaster for a while now. Are things looking good? No. Russia is going to collapse but it will be a slow march into China‘s lapdog status, not a spectacular explosion.
It’s a tricky subject, like many others, because there’s a lot of ‘it depends’.
Up till now? They’ve been pretty complacent because for them it’s a war of choice. There’s no conscription in major cities, most involved are either convicts, willing, foreigners or plucked from remote communities removed from anywhere important.
This is also backed by a mix of heavy propaganda and a borderline surveillance state level of control over population. To the average Ivan, they know a good chunk of what they hear is a load of bull, but its hard to tell the exact extent. Sure the cost of living has gone up, but they also know if they’re too loud in complaining, they’ll probably get dragged off by an official for a “chat”.
In saying all this though, the next year will be interesting to watch, because just a few days ago the Kremlin announced a 180% hike in personal taxes and 140% in business taxes. Think about how much that amounts to on a personal level. Lot of business that are feeling pressures will probably crash with this and for people it’s gonna be the first time they’re going to feel a very real squeeze from this war. Something that Putin has gone to length to avoid until now.
Furthermore, were starting to see multiple sources of potential bank runs, meaning there’s a very real possibility that cash reserves are basically gone.
Will something come out of it? Maybe, maybe not. Might be nothing happens and the Russian people suffer. But the more pressure is put on people at that personal level is going to make the whole more inclined to actually do something.
“The protest was against attempts by the militia to intimidate the Russian people, but the Russian people didn’t show up.”
“This is not your enigmatic Russian soul; this is the long-standing tradition of living a lie about which Solzhenitsyn wrote long ago, mixed with a lazy refusal to take your backside off your chair in a warm kitchen”
“Beslan showed us the real situation. One of the reasons for Russia’s social malaise is this diabolical cynicism on the part of the authorities, who peddle a completely fake reality. Russia’s citizens do not rise up against this cynicism. They withdraw into their own shells, becoming defenceless, wordless and inhibited. Putin knows this and employs brazen cynicism as the anti-revolutionary technique that works best in Russia.”
“The state authorities hold on to their power at the price of our lives. It’s as simple as that.”
Anna Politkovskaya
renowned chronicler of the 2nd Chechen War
murdered outside her Moscow apartment in 2006
Mhm, any day now. Between the passivity of russians and the effectiveness of their governments repression I’d rather watch paint dry.
Not going to happen.
Post the article if it’s paywalled please
20 years of systemic FSB oppression and a rigged legal system giving harsh punishments to any form of dissidence have done their job.
Probably not. They ‘rose up’ once before, didn’t go so well.
lol modern Russia is full of nothing but sheep
No… it’s not…
Thats a lot of bollocks.
Putin is result of Russian people not a cause of it.
Regular Russian deep inside WANTS Putin to succeed.
Really!! russia is a terrorist state, fully invested in being a terrorist state. They need to be kicked out of Ukraine and isolated from the civilised world, it will take a miracle to change their hearts and minds.
Last time it was 70 years
One Yuga cycle. Google it.
Haha these cowards? Never.
They forgot /s
I doubt that seriously doubt.
Russians are NPC’s. Programmed to obey.
X doubt
Any Day Now
Just like Jesus’s Return
Please wake me if either occur…
Writer is thinking too highly of the Russians.
Any day now. You can’t trust russian with a revolution. They have serfdom genetically ingrained
Doubt there are enough Russians with a backbone.
I cannot think of a nation *less likely to rebel* than the Russians – even the end of the Soviet Union came not from the Russian people, but their enslaved satellites and the top of the Politburo.
I wouldn’t bet on that…
Not going to happen. They’ve had an oppressive government and insane levels of corruption for over 100 years and don’t know how anything else would work.
It’s a nice thought, but the Russian leaders have gone to a great deal of effort to ensure Russian people don’t know what democracy or rising up actually is, or how to determine a decent leader in the event that they ever might do so – so that any dictator is simply replaced with another dictator.
They are continually told how “You think it’s bad here? Well you should see how terrible it is out there!”
In fact they are completely isolated.
Trump’s emulating the method to get it into the USA and imprisoning anybody who knows what democracy is.
As much as this would be great, this will never happen. The vast majority supports their holy leader till the end.
Russians won’t rise up over anything. You know how much the average Russian gets paid? Like $600 a month. Their “betters” treat them like indentured servants and they still don’t rise up. They sincerely, genuinely think they’re better than anyone else on the planet. They also think they’re tough and strong while they work for slave wages and drink pure vodka in order to feel just a little better.
Doubt it
You betting on the Proles, Winston? Lol, turn up the dial.
Anytime you’re ready.
Lol. Nope. They are slaves.
Lol
Lmao
Really? Seems like they have been cowed into silence.
We measuring that time in years, decades, or geological epochs?
Wishful thinking.
No. They won’t.
No, it’s not.
