When Ireland won its first relay medal at a global senior championship 21 years ago, the scene was far different from the stellar year Irish relays enjoyed in 2024.

The Irish men’s historic bronze medal in the 4x400m at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest in March 2004 didn’t grab attention on the same scale or lead to excitable ‘is this relay country?’ blurbs which were reeled off during last year’s most successful season ever.
