  1. Submission Statement:

Sensitive talks between U.S. and Chinese delegations over tariffs that threaten to upend the global economy ended after a day of prolonged negotiations and will resume Sunday, a source briefed on the meetings confirmed to CBS News.

President Trump posted on his social media Saturday evening after the meetings concluded, saying “great progress” was made.

“A very good meeting today with China, in Switzerland,” Mr. Trump said. “Many things discussed, much agreed to. A total reset negotiated in a friendly, but constructive, manner. We want to see, for the good of both China and the U.S., an opening up of China to American business.”

  2. Anything trump says is not worth much. So articles like these unfortunately don’t mean much until actions follow

  3. Wait and see. Trump is a perennial lier. We can’t trust anything will change until it actually does.

  4. After all this and dropping tariffs will be massive hit to USA reputation and credibility either go with tariffs or don’t cry for trade deficit

  5. In trumpese i assume that means they restart negotiations again at 145% and try to move it to 80%.

  6. We shall wait for the official statement from China to get a clearer picture of what has been discussed and agreed to.

  7. It remains unclear what has changed for the better for the United States.

  8. US trade deficit is structural, so long as China remains a significant trade partner any settlement remain temporary. Just as Japan never negotiated a way out of being targeted by US trade action, being surpassed by China was its only permanent reprieve. Current rounds of turmoil is just the most recent attempt to rebalance Brentwoods, China happens to occupy the unenviable position of largest export to US.  As mexico takes over the title and China continues to reorient away from direct engagement of US market, you might see China fades into the back ground a little, but too useful an adversary to ever fully go away.

  9. US could’ve started with talks like this, and things would’ve been way smoother
