I am moving back to Scotland after being away for a couple of years to start a new job. But this time I'm not coming alone. While I was in my home country, the cat distribution system brought a wee boy into my life. He was scrawny, beat up, half blind, scared of everything apart from me for some reason. Naturally, I grew to love him very much, as per distribution system T&Cs. Unfortunately, I can't seem to be able to bring him with me on the plane (in cabin or in hold) due to some embargo (tried Lufthansa, KLM). I don't drive. Has anyone brought a cat into Scotland from the EU? And, if so, how?

You might need to look at specialist cargo, BA link to IAG Cargo as their partner for pets.
Eurostar?
I don’t know how to negotiate that headache, but I hope you can bring your gorgeous wee fellow back here with as minimal stress to him as possible. He is a beautiful cat, hope he’s back home and settled soon.
You might need to check. Don’t just take this comment but I would assume there would be some sort of checks required surely for rabies?
We used Jet2’s partner service PetsonJets (not sure if that’s the exact name but it’s something like that). Had to land in Manchester and get the train to Glasgow, but that was not long after the IK relaxed quarantine rules so it might be possible to come directly to Scotland now.
When I moved to Prague in the first place, I went with KLM, but had to stop over in Amsterdam.
Usually you need a document from the vet that states the cat is in good enough health to fly as well as a pet passport or something that officially states they have been microchipped and vaccinated for rabies. In the Czech Republic I think I also had to get the documents stamped by the state vet.
Best bet is to contact the airlines and find out exactly what their policy is. They’re best placed to tell you what you need and even things like the dimensions of the cat carrier.
I got somebody to drive me and my cat. Took the ferry over. A friend did it by train but that limits your options for ferries because they usually want the cats to stay in the car during the crossing. Best option would probably be the Amsterdam to Newcastle one. Saves you a lot of the trip and I think you can even take the cat into the cabin. At the very least, they’ll have kennels though.
Also make sure to check the vaccine requirements. Not sure what they currently are but most likely he’ll have to be vaccinated for rabies and it needs to be a couple of weeks before crossing the border.
I don’t know how to tell you this pal, but he’s already set off without you. He’s just put he wee paws up on the dashboard to get his bearings, then he’ll carry on his journey. He’ll be having a roll and sausage in Glesga by teatime.
Seriously, you’ll have to check the rules on bringing pets into the country. Good luck to you both.
