Welcome to The Blueprint, where we break down the celebrity looks we want to wear right now and build them back up, piece by piece.

Kate Middleton is looking pretty in polka dots, which also happens to be my exact style goal for the summer.

On May 8, the Princess of Wales attended a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey wearing one of her signature long-sleeve midi dresses in what’s already becoming the season’s hottest print: polka dots. She accessorized the effortlessly elegant outfit with neutral details, reaching for a black fascinator, a tan top-handle purse, and tan heels.

While Kate isn’t the first A-lister to break out the dotted pattern in recent weeks — Jennifer Garner wore a polka-dot blouse earlier this month, too — she’s been making a case for the trend for years. Even so, her latest iteration feels fresh, modern, and expertly polished, which is why I plan on picking up pieces inspired by her outfit blueprint immediately.

Ann Taylor Dotted Wrap Midi Dress

Ann Taylor

I’ve been loving polka dots for spring and summer, and Kate’s look just gave me a whole new batch of inspiration. This dress from Ann Taylor looks similar to the Princess’ long-sleeve style, and its breezy blouson sleeves and wrap design are so smart for summer. I can already see myself styling it with strappy heeled sandals for dinners out with friends and white sneakers for a day in the office.

Milan Chiva Top-Handle Purse

Amazon

Kate has long been known to carry a top-handle purse when completing her royal duties, and her latest outing was no exception. This style’s gold hardware and flap closure closely resemble her tan bag, and dozens of Amazon shoppers have given it a five-star rating for its roomy carrying capacity and expensive-looking exterior. “It will make a great accessory to the perfect outfit,” one shopper shared.

Sam Edelman Cohen Pointed-Toe Flat

The Princess accessorized her outfit with a tall pair of tan heels, but I think these pointed-toe tan flats from Sam Edelman would be much more comfortable. Reviewers appreciate that they’re “easy to walk in” and look great with everything from dresses to trousers and jeans, and one shopper even said they were comfortable enough to wear during a six hour event.

Kate Middleton’s outfit is the effortlessly elegant look we want to wear all summer long. Keep scrolling to shop more polka-dot dresses, top-handle bags, and tan shoes inspired by her ’fit below.
