Vatican: Pope Leo XIV makes a clear stand for Ukraine, unlike his predecessor Pope Francis who called for Ukraine to surrender (“courage of the white flag”). May 12, 2025

  1. I never knew Pope Francis had the nerve to call for a white flag. Pathetic. Not to say a cease fire wouldn’t be a good thing.

  2. Back in the day, the pope had the power to send the armies of the European kingdoms to actually battle those he declared were the “wicked” or what not… be that true or otherwise.

Nowadays, we celebrate when the pope chooses to take a side, and call out the aggressor.

Other than making speeches… pretty toothless.

  3. I love that he speaks fluent Italian. What a beautiful language to hear.

  4. A pope with balls. Good for Ukraine. Bad for alter boys.

  5. Leo XIV may well take some air out of Trump’s tires as well as Putin’s. Americans and Europeans both are eager for a defender of liberal freedoms (the Bill of Rights) and reform of capitalist predations. See, Leo XIII (meaning Google him). Not a coincidence, indeed, the whole point!

  6. Bravo Papa, about time we had a pope with a bit of back bone!

  7. Maybe the church could donate some money to Ukraine?

  8. Even though he has/had questionable views on certain issues, examples being LGBT people and the role of women in the church, I appreciate him being vocal on this topic. He was even vocal when the invasion in 2022 started.
