A modern regional hospital is to be erected in Balti. The costs will be covered by a €3 million grant offered by the European Union and managed by the Council of Europe Development Bank. The agreement, recently signed by the Ministry of Health and the CEB, marks the launch of the preparatory phase of the project, which provides for the completion of the works by 2028, IPN reports.
The medical unit is designed as a reference center for the north of the country and is expected to serve almost 1 million people. According to the authorities, the financing is intended for the activities necessary to start the construction, including for the development of the concept and technical documentation.
The Balti Regional Hospital is part of the reform of the hospital system in Moldova and of the government’s strategy for meeting the European standards. The initiative is aligned with national strategic documents, including the National Action Plan for Accession to the European Union and the EU-funded Moldova Growth Plan. The latter represents the most extensive financial support offered to our country since the proclamation of independence and provides for major investments in medical infrastructure, as well as the construction of regional hospitals in Balti and Cahul.
The responsibility for the implementation of the project lies with the Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Health, which will cooperate with the CEB and the Delegation of the European Union to Moldova.
