  1. Good. Good on them! Glad it’s passed the first stage!

  2. Only 14 ahead at stage 1 is grim for something the public support. How many of the no’s become yes as it progresses? None I bet.

  3. Early days yet but that is a bigger margin for stg 1 than I expected. Good.

  4. Two stages to go. Not sure how long that will take though? Assume it must be before the next election?

  5. Excellent news, and an healthy and respectful debate too.

  6. Do I need to have a condition or can I register to do it anyway?

  7. The Lib Dems have done something 🎉, mon them!

    Sounds like a sensible decision.

  8. I think this could be a good thing but I think it need to be use carefully

  9. Disabled and hoo, glad it’s through but bugger me if I’m not personally nervous.

  10. Sturgeon, Swinney and Yousaf voted against it. Religious nutters all I take it.

Or, like other party leaders, they know the real agenda here is going into Aktion T4 territory and don’t want to be associated with it.

And the support is mostly astroturf from what appears to be a well funded lobby.

  11. Genuinely shocked this has passed. But in a good way.

Hopefully it gets smooth sailing through the next rounds.

No one should have the right to prolong someone’s suffering in a free country like ours.

  12. I’m for it in principle, but if the safeguards aren’t higher or stronger than those currently touted or even those suggested for the Westminster bill, I would be concerned

  13. I’m sure everyone looking to liberate estates is delighted

(It’s ok to be in favour of killing people humanely with consent to put them out of their misery & to recognise a bad law that will be wide open to abuse of the worst kind.)

  14. Can’t say I agree with this. It is an extremely poor and ill thought out piece of legislation. Hopefully, Westminster will intervene and overturn.

  15. Good.

Maybe in time it’ll be useful to a lot of people, I hope it’s something we re-visit and make more accessible since I’m sure whatever initial legislation is passed will be next to useless for most of us.

  16. Very disappointed with a lot of the top SNPs stance on this and for John Swinney to turn around and say he disagrees with giving people the choice because it goes against his faith and personal beliefs is a ridiculous cop out. People having a choice to end their life if faced with a terminal illness is absolutely nothing to do with some politicians religion. It’s turned me off the SNP and I’ll be honest I don’t think anyone religious should be in a position of power if it’s going to affect their critical thinking.

  17. Great news. This should have been made law a long time ago. I’ve always been astounded that we refer to euthanising an animal in distress as “putting it out of it’s misery”, yet it’s apparently A-ok to allow humans to remain in a state of agony (that has no hope of being cured), sometimes for a long period of time, and try and draw that pain out as long as possible. It’s the only area of life where animals are afforded more dignity than human beings, so this has been a long time coming.
