Yet another reason the death penalty shouldn’t be reintroduced.
I hope this man gets a fair settlement (I doubt he will), and enjoys the fraction of his life he has left.

The head of reviews, the one that fucked over malkinson, isn’t she still in post?
38 lost years
What the hell
At the very minimum he should be awarded £38mil, 1 for every year he lost. It doesn’t come close to making up for it, but it’s a start
This is why people who say things like “Lucy Letby is guilty because the jury found her guilty” are idiots
Seems that he was a vulnerable man of low intellect who gave a confession under interview without any support. Today he would have an Appropriate Adult or the case would get thrown out.
It doesn’t seem that the CCRC are at fault as the technology used to isolate the DNA evidence has only become available very recently.
Thank goodness there was no death penalty
I’m from the Wirral and an old friend of mine was pulled in for questioning in connection with this murder. Peter Sullivan was said to be in the area at time and obviously was the one who ended up being convicted, but at the time there were serious questions about the conviction. This is not some case of DNA clearing this man’s name, the people who knew him, my old friend included, knew he was innocent of this terrible crime.
We now need a review to determine why he was basically thrown to the wolves when the evidence against him was so thin. Our legal system needs an overhaul. Another very prominent case, a recent one, is also being called into question and the judge is using the classic excuse that the evidence was available to the defense but not used so is not new evidence. There is something very wrong when evidence to convict people is being ripped apart yet the person involved is still behind bars.
He’s been in prison for as long as I’ve been alive. Absolutely horrifying.
