Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) had plenty to say during his Monday spot on MSNBC, and none of it was good for President Donald Trump and his administration.

Among the accusations levied by Murphy was that Trump is orchestrating a shakedown of the country and the world from his presidential perch. He made the allegation while pointing to Trump’s swing through the Middle East this week.

“Obviously, he’s going to these three countries for a simple reason,” Murphy said. “These are the three countries that are willing to pay him. Traditionally a president might go first to Canada, or to one of our European allies, but those countries aren’t willing to write Trump a check.

“These are the three countries that are willing to pay Donald Trump,” Murphy added. “And that is essentially what controls Donald Trump’s day. He spends most of his day either golfing or benefitting and profiting off of his office. So, that is the message you send to the rest of the world. If you want the United States to pay attention to you for the next 3 ½ – 4 years, you gotta pay me off. If you don’t, you gotta wait in the back of the line.”

Murphy said that is “the same thing that is happening domestically.”

“A big trucking company that operates in the United States just announced publicly that they were buying $20 million of Trump coin because that is how they understand they would get an exemption from the tariffs. So, the same message plays in the United States, if you pay Donald Trump off, you will get what you want. But if you are an ordinary American or just a mom-and-pop business that is getting hurt by the tariffs, you are going to get screwed because this is a pay-to-play White House.

“That’s true overseas and now it’s true here in the United States.”
