Russia-Ukraine talks end after less than two hours in Turkey

1. To the surprise of absolutely no one.

   Those peace “talks” are just a charade between these two states to convince Trump that they’re the ones willing to commit to his peace plans.

   Both are completely incapable of conceding anything despite the reality on the ground telling us that they are nowhere near imposing what they want.

2. Ukraine demanded an immediate 30 day ceasefire with no conditions as a precondition to talks.

   Russia said “No way are we letting you fortify for 30 days only to start fighting again for no gain on our part”.

   Talks ended, because it turns out negotiation wasn’t something they wanted in the first place.

3. Why are Ukrainians supposed to deny their own sovereignty?

   I understand the war must end and concessions are required for peace. However, it seems only Ukraine must give up concessions. Not Russia who is the aggressor. It’s immoral.

4. No big surprise there. Peace has the lowest priority on things that russia wants. I wonder what were the low ranking russian nobodies even allowed to negotiate about? Or were they there just to convey the ever so delusional non negotiable demands from the bunker?

5. The Ukrainian party pretended to not understand Russian and had an interpreter. I have no idea how serious the Russians were during this talk, probably not all that much, but at least they didn’t make a circius out of the whole thing.

   edit: if reports are to be believed, the Russians were likely not serious either and we should expect a significant summer offensive in the coming months. I’d guess Odesa.
