Arrest made as Tuskegee police investigate multiple business burglaries

  • 16.05.2025

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – One suspect is in custody and a ‘person of interest’ is being detained as Tuskegee police continue investigations into at least six business burglaries in the month of May.

The arrest happened on May 10, and the suspect is identified as Josha Slaughter, 31, of Tuskegee, according to Tuskegee Chief of Police Gary Hicks.

Slaughter’s arrest happened after officers responded to a possible burglary in progress around 10 p.m. at a business in the 300 block of West Martin Luther King Highway.

Investigators found the business had been damaged but the suspect was not inside. Slaughter was arrested after a canvas of the area found him at another nearby business.

Investigators have since determined Slaughter is the suspect in a previous burglary in the 200 block of West Martin Luther King Highway.

He’s now being held at the Macon County Detention Facility on multiple counts including burglary 3rd degree, criminal mischief, and two counts of theft of property 3rd.

Days later on Thursday, Hicks said officers detained the unnamed person of interest in an ongoing burglary investigation in the area of Railroad Street and Crawford Street. The man has multiple warrants from surrounding areas and is being held at the MCDF on a hold for one of those agencies.

Tuskegee police are asking the public for any help identifying suspects in the burglaries by police at 334-727-0200 and following the prompts for Investigations. Anonymous tips can also be made to CrimeStoppers at 334-215-STOP.

Tuskegee businesses can also get a free security assessment.

Business owners can request a security assessment conducted by an American Crime Prevention Institute Certified Security Assessment Specialist by sending a message to Tuskegee Police Department via Facebook messenger or dialing (334) 439-2077.
