Carolina Novac, Secretary of State at Moldova’s Ministry of Energy, met with Edgars Bondars, Latvia’s Ambassador to Moldova and his official delegation. The discussions focused on Latvia’s experience with biogas technologies.

Latvian models

The delegation presented business models and examples of existing energy infrastructure in Latvia, where biogas is produced from organic waste and wastewater, and used to generate electricity, heat or biomethane for transport.

Latvia has successfully attracted investments in circular energy systems, involving both the private sector and local authorities. Moldova is interested in these best practices as part of its efforts to diversify energy sources and promote green technologies.

Moldova’s green future

“The valorisation of domestic renewable resources, including waste-to-energy conversion, is a strategic priority for the Republic of Moldova. The successful models presented by our Latvian partners offer a valuable starting point for developing similar projects at the national level,” said Carolina Novac, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy.

The parties also agreed to organise a study visit to Latvia, where Moldovan farmers and investors will gain first-hand insight into the Latvian biogas sector.
