Iceland’s Eurovision 2025 journey ended in disappointment last night as electronic duo VÆB finished 25th out of 26 in the grand final in Basel.

Despite their energetic performance, Eurovision’s jury saw no reason to award the Icelandic act a single point. Only San Marino scored lower overall.

As reported by RÚV, VÆB did receive some support from the public, however, earning 33 points in the televote.

Overall, the final result was a stark contrast to their success earlier in the week: VÆB scored an impressive 97 points in Tuesday’s semi-final, placing sixth.

Austria claimed the Eurovision crown, with opera singer JJ winning with the dramatic ballad Wasted Love, scoring 436 points, including 178 from the public. It marks Austria’s third Eurovision win, following triumphs in 2014 and 1966. Israel came second, Estonia third, and Sweden’s entry, Kaj, placed fourth.

While VÆB’s final result fell short of expectations, the strong semi-final showing suggests Iceland still has potential to compete. As the country reflects on this year’s outcome, attention will now turn to preparing a stronger bid for Eurovision 2026.
