Looking at you, Lime

  1. Is this in Hackney? Lots of people turn up to the half marathon on a bike.

  2. These idiots are the reason why riding a lime in 2/3 is as expensive as a taxi now. The fines and losses they have must be horrifying.

  3. The demand is clearly there for cycling. We need to expand and double down on the boris bike network.

  4. I f cars had been left like this they would be towed away, councils should do the same and charge a recovery fee.

  5. While the primary responsibility lies with those who park these bikes so carelessly, I’ve been thinking more deeply about why this behaviour occurs.

Lime bikes have introduced many people to the convenience of e-bikes, especially in busy cities like London. They allow riders to reach their destinations faster than cars, without breaking a sweat. However, despite this growing interest, many are reluctant to purchase their own e-bikes due to the rampant bike theft in London. Even with top-of-the-line locks, an e-bike left unattended wouldn’t last 30 seconds.

This creates a dilemma: people want the convenience of e-bikes, but they don’t want to risk owning one. As a result, they turn to hire schemes like Lime. But since these aren’t personally owned bikes, users tend to care less about how or where they leave them.

That said, Lime does share some of the blame due to its poor parking enforcement. There have been numerous times when I’ve tried to park a Lime bike in what seemed to be a perfectly acceptable spot, only to be told I need to move it. Understandably, users become frustrated. To avoid wasting time and money, they often end their ride by leaving the bike wherever others have been left, as pictured by the op.

With rental fees now so high, users are increasingly disincentivised to find proper parking, especially if it extends their ride time and adds to the cost.

  6. Think of how many fewer cars were on the road for this event. Not great they left them in the street, but still a win over the alternative

  7. Get rid and expand the TfL system or make it so third party bikes must use docking stations. Either way, expand the docking stations to the whole of London. Expand bike lanes, too.

  8. Everyone panicking about nothing – this is from the Hackney Half and the road was closed.

  9. It’s so bad especially on the pavements, thinking of prams and wheelchair users.

  10. Why can’t they do what tokyo did. Reserve a parking spot.

  11. If this many cars were parked on that street it would look sillier. The demand for bicycles in London is very under estimated.

  12. I saw some Forrest bikes parked across a pedestrian crossing covering it entirely and making it impossible for wheelchair users to safely cross. It’s not even the first time. wondering if councils have some financial incentives that make them avoid dealing with it.

  13. I like the fact that more bikes are parked on the street than on the pavement.

  14. Well people wanted more bikes and they got it.

  15. Op did this for the photo op. I can’t imagine people being this ridiculous unless it was the intent to block off the road.

  16. Also you wanted more greenery? here’s more greenery. Lol

  17. They need to make lime rental warehouses/ parks where they can all go in one place

  18. Those mofos just started dropping their bloody bikes off at our site without asking permission, blocking the driveway and breaching H&S. One morning my boss caught the guy, told him to load that shit back into his van, to F off and never return. They are now leaving their bikes neatly next to the site entrance which is fine with us.

  19. It’s like that South Park episode hahahah

  20. We can’t have anything nice , always some re*^rds to mess things up so eventually they’ll be taken off the roads . Ignorant and lazy .

  21. Where exactly is it? Is it on a main thoroughfare, or is it a pedestrianised street where bike parking is permitted? I’m just surprised something like this would be allowed on a functioning road.

  22. I just kick them into the road and send them a pic of it… really annoys me and shows how self entitled the users are🤬🤬

  23. They need to actually penalties people for bad parking. They ask you to tke a photo ad then do nothing.

  24. Brent has a contact – to make Lime take them… but i don’t know about this road…

  25. What do you mean it’s helping the environment it’s green so it’s basically a tree

  26. I hate them so very much.
How can the company not get fined for literally obstructing roads and pavements?
Why do these dumb bikes and their owner company get a pass?

  27. They should ban these pieces of crap and just have Boris bikes.
