In an uncertain economy like this, every penny counts. So we asked the experts at Consumers’ Checkbook for some of their favorite money-saving websites that we may not have heard of. Here are five of them: Up first: JustWatch.com. Let’s say it’s movie night, and the kids want to watch a movie, but you don’t know where to find it. Start by plugging the title into JustWatch.com. It’ll tell you if you can watch that movie on a streaming site you already pay for or even for free.”I’ll plug into this website and it will tell me, ‘OK you can actually watch it for free over here on some lesser known streaming site,'” said Kevin Brasler, executive editor at Consumer’s Checkbook, adding you may have to watch ads to see it for free. “It’ll also tell you whether or not something’s available at all. Sometimes I’ll put in a movie that I want to see, and I’ll find that it’s just not available right now except to rent or buy it.”Website No. 2: CashbackMonitor.com. More and more websites now offer cash rebates or discounts if you buy something online through their shopping portal.”What this website does is it tells you what each portal is offering,” Brasler said. “Some companies, you get 5% here 20% over there.”If you’re in the market for a new iPhone, Cashback Monitor says you can get up to 3% cash back at Apple or rack up some airline miles or credit card points with that purchase. Brasler recommends looking for a lucrative deal from a shopping portal before making any large purchase.Up next: Going.com. This website tracks discounted airfare from cities you tell it to.”A lot of these deals that they uncover, they come and go quickly,” Brasler said. “Some of them are mistake airfares, but it does tell you also things like, (for example), ‘Oh, Alaska Air is offering a buy one, get one free fare if you put in this certain code.'”Website No. 4: GoodRX.com or any of the several prescription coupon sites out there. There’s a good chance that, for generic drugs, you may be able to pay less than your insurance copay by shopping around. Finally, No. 5: GetHuman.com. This is a time-saving website, not a money-saving website, but time is money.GetHuman.com tells you how to cut through an automated phone tree and get to a live customer service representative fast. It has detailed instructions for hundreds of major companies.”They’ll not only tell you the phone number to call, but once you’ve called that number, what to do afterward to get to a human as quickly as possible,” Brasler said.Want to see the full list of favorite websites from Consumers’ Checkbook? NEEDHAM, Mass. —

In an uncertain economy like this, every penny counts. So we asked the experts at Consumers’ Checkbook for some of their favorite money-saving websites that we may not have heard of.

Here are five of them:

Up first: JustWatch.com. Let’s say it’s movie night, and the kids want to watch a movie, but you don’t know where to find it. Start by plugging the title into JustWatch.com. It’ll tell you if you can watch that movie on a streaming site you already pay for or even for free.

“I’ll plug [the title] into this website and it will tell me, ‘OK you can actually watch it for free over here on some lesser known streaming site,'” said Kevin Brasler, executive editor at Consumer’s Checkbook, adding you may have to watch ads to see it for free. “It’ll also tell you whether or not something’s available at all. Sometimes I’ll put in a movie that I want to see, and I’ll find that it’s just not available right now except to rent or buy it.”

Website No. 2: CashbackMonitor.com. More and more websites now offer cash rebates or discounts if you buy something online through their shopping portal.

“What this website does is it tells you what each portal is offering,” Brasler said. “Some companies, you get 5% here [but maybe] 20% over there.”

If you’re in the market for a new iPhone, Cashback Monitor says you can get up to 3% cash back at Apple or rack up some airline miles or credit card points with that purchase. Brasler recommends looking for a lucrative deal from a shopping portal before making any large purchase.

Up next: Going.com. This website tracks discounted airfare from cities you tell it to.

“A lot of these deals that they uncover, they come and go quickly,” Brasler said. “Some of them are mistake airfares, but it does tell you also things like, (for example), ‘Oh, Alaska Air is offering a buy one, get one free fare if you put in this certain code.'”

Website No. 4: GoodRX.com or any of the several prescription coupon sites out there. There’s a good chance that, for generic drugs, you may be able to pay less than your insurance copay by shopping around.

Finally, No. 5: GetHuman.com. This is a time-saving website, not a money-saving website, but time is money.

GetHuman.com tells you how to cut through an automated phone tree and get to a live customer service representative fast. It has detailed instructions for hundreds of major companies.

“They’ll not only tell you the phone number to call, but once you’ve called that number, what to do afterward to get to a human as quickly as possible,” Brasler said.
