You know what infuriates me as a commuter? Paying extortionate fees for a return ticket for a service so unreliable you can’t guarantee your train is going to arrive at your destination, and not be cancelled, even while you sit on it.
Let’s keep our anger about public transport proportionately channelled in the right direction please, Lib Dems and The Independent – i.e. towards the train companies. Get the fundamentals right before tinkering away with minor issues.
(I’m referring here to the national rail network rather than the underground, which is more reliable and slightly better value).

Why give it a cool name that they’ll take pride in? Let’s call it Twatcasting instead.
Not usually a fan of LibDems. But I support them on this one. People who play videos, music and take calls in loudspeakers in public transport are so infuriating. These inconsiderate tw&ts deserve the fines.
£1000 fine for that…
What’s the fine for not having a ticket?
Proportionality people.
Christ all you need to do when the bruh next to you is playing some shit on loudspeaker.. pull your phone out and play something on loudspeaker so they can’t hear their own.
It used to be called sodcasting. Seems we need a new name now.
I’m not sure using your phone without headphones warrants its own term…
As appealing as this is, it also sounds completely unenforceable.
Whos going to enforce these fines? This is one of the key issues in my opinion
It’s annoying but no more annoying than people having loud conversations etc I think sometimes you just have to accept something is annoying and get on with your day tbh
It isn’t that often I see it happen, as I try and avoid busses etc where possible…but if I do witness it, I have no problem politely asking them to stop. And if that doesn’t work – less politely asking them to stop.
If we all get on board with taking responsibility for holding people accountable of their actions, then maybe we can stamp it out?
Putting up with it silently then going online to moan isn’t a very effective approach to nipping it in the bud.
In olden times social mores allowed a gentleman to whack an inconsiderate fool with a walking cane.
Now we endlessly debate unenforceable laws, and absurd fines, whilst the masses suffer.
Also all the lads who go around playing their shite music on speakers tied to their bikes or wheeled around look and sound like absolute wankers. It’s so obvious they crave attention and were probably the class clown or the person people avoided in their teen years, get therapy lads because nobody wants to listen to your shite music.
Not wearing headphones is an excellent way to tell us you cannot afford a fiver pair
You have to be genuinely shameless to do stuff like this. I don’t see it often though.
When did this start to be an issue? Surely wasn’t always like this?
What’s with the newspapers all competing to label everything? And why is everything bare or backing or beating? Wtf
We don’t need a term for “playing your music in public”.
I rarely come across young people playing music. It is almost always people who are old enough to know better and it’s more likely to be Tik Tok or video calls. I had an older lady next to me listening to some kind of news podcast about the P Diddy trial.
Did they have to rename it after the far right co-opted the term ‘headphone dodgers’?
sitting in the 8 to bethnal green, having aunties and uncles taking video calls during the whole 30 min drive without headphones, why, why the fuck?
