1. A figure everyone can rally against. Those sympathetic to migrants, seeing them frequently exploited in the search for a stable and fulfilling life for their family, are pissed this guy robbed and threatened them in exchange for a life-threatening raft voyage.

   Those who see migrants as dangerous or subversive or a drain are no doubt pleased by the possibility this curtails the passage of further refugees

2. Can’t even begin to imagine what a journey from north Africa to Italy is like via some dudes cramped fishing boat. This is really gross dangerous and exploitative behavior. Wonder how many men women and children fell overboard and drowned because of lack of space and life preserves.
