DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF)– ‘Sanctuary of Peace’ will bring together people of all backgrounds and faiths to promote world peace, while NATO is in town.
“We’re doing it also to celebrate how NATO has helped for now over 75 years to create at least pockets of peace in the world,” said Rev. Peter Homeyer of Christ Episcopal Church.
Rev. Homeyer plans to open the doors for the City of Dayton during NATO to lift the parliamentarians and the world up in prayer. This comes as several nations will come together this week talk about peace across the globe, something he said is extremely important.
“We all have a role to play in making peace. some of us have big roles like the folks who will be gathered with the NATO general assembly and some of us have roles that look exactly the size of our lives, but if we make peace, we’ll do it together,” said Homeyer.
He told Dayton 24/7 Now’s, Kysha Hancock starting this Thursday until next Monday, for 12 hours a day the sanctuary of peace will be open for people of all faiths to pray together or on their own. The church will also offer peaceful group activities.
“We’re going to be able to put together sand mandalas, which are a peaceful activity out of a Hindu practice, there’s going to be crane folding, origami tradition that’s out of Japan…there’s going to be divine watching with our beautiful Mary of Peace,” said Homeyer.
Homeyer said he’s excited for the church to host this and create a positive atmosphere for the community and visitors.
“As faithful people, we know that god desires peace for all of us,” said Homeyer.
‘Sanctuary of Peace will take place this Thursday, May 22nd through Monday the 26th from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. All are welcome to come participate.
