  1. Florida makes complete sense with lots of communities with security and shared amenities.

    Illinois too just because of Chicago. If you have an elevator or are more than a 3-unit duplex, you’ll have some sort of an HOA. A 1,000 unit highrise is different than a 6 unit double duplex though.

    When most on reddit think of an HOA, they think of the burbs that have a fountain and bitchy Karen’s running it.

    I have experience with all three of the above and it’s really not that bad.
