  1. It doesn’t say which company.

    I would guess Palantir.

  2. This is dystopian. It starts with the disabled, but it’ll rapidly spread.

  3. If people are going to get shit on here for posting a Daily Mail link, then you can’t go posting links to The Canary without being laughed at approximately three to four times as much. It is not a serious news website.

  4. Understand the DWP **is** the government, Starmer’s government

  5. DWP already have bank account balance Information, shared with them by HMRC, which they in turn share with local authorities through a system called ATLAS.

I’m not sure what the additional information is in this canary article, it seems to be transaction level information, but the idea of DWP doing something new accessing bank account information is wrong.

Theres an interesting MSE thread here where someone had their housing benefit reduced by the council because ATLAS data shared with the council by DWP showed their wages had gone up (even only for 1 week). This was 7 years ago.

  6. GOOD – if you claim benefits it should be a pre-req that the agency paying you welfare can see your bank account. Why is this even a bloody debate, it’s literally common sense.

    Oh wait the canary …
