  5. This is actually a distraction story to deflect attention away from Mahmood’s sentencing review later today. Mahmood will be releasing prisoners early, including some sex offenders and violent offenders, for them to be managed on tags. In order to project the idea Labour is ‘tough on crime’, this non-story is being pushed.

    The reality is these drugs have limited impact on only the most severe cases. The drugs can also lull authorities into a false sense of security, as they aren’t effective in many cases. And by relying on drugs, this allows the authorities to *not* lock sex offenders up, which means we could have sex offenders roaming free whom the drugs don’t work on, which the monitoring authorities aren’t monitoring, because they think the drugs do work.

  6. Needs to be a punishment, not voluntary. Question: it’s the administration of certain chemicals, right? Is it reversible, does it ‘wear off’ if you’re ‘off your meds’? Or is it ‘one pill and you’re done for life’?

  8. Wasn’t there a documentary that covered this topic a few years ago – the paedos themselves who had it done said it didn’t work and that the procedure did nothing to change their mindset.

    So yet more money wasted on a redundant government scheme.

  10. I don’t care who you are or what you’ve done. No state should have the power to intervene in someone’s body to such a massive life-altering degree. It also fundamentally misunderstands what drives rapists and pedophilia. It is _not_ people just being extra horny, but instead about power, control and manipulation. Chemically or physically castrating someone is not going to change these urges in any way. So we are essentially just opening up avenues for state torture as a form of deterrent.

    This government makes me sick. Every day they cosplay some even sicker version of Reform, they lose a little more of their souls.

This is pretty gross and disturbing- inflicting medical treatment on someone is a Human Right’s violation, and while I’m sure plenty of people will happily line up and say ‘what about the human rights of the victims and potential victims’, I don’t believe we should be inflicting major hormone therapy on anyone regardless of what type of person they are.

    And has it even been proven to stop abuses from happening? I doubt it because it would probably be unethical to conduct the research. It might take away sexual desire, but it won’t take away the other thoughts and feelings that contribute to people abusing.

    It feels like something the government has pulled out of there collective asses to say – look, we’ve thought of safeguards.

    What about the increase in reported female teachers abusing their position at schools.
