TLDR; introverted father hosting his first ever photography exhibition at Battersea Arts Centre – would mean the world to him if people went to check it out

—-

After years of trying to turn his photography into a career, my introverted 75 year old father is finally having his first proper photography exhibition.

Only problem is he doesn’t know how to do marketing or anything so he’s only had a handful of people come in this week and I get the impression is feeling pretty deflated about it – not that he’d ever say.

He's been working towards this for ages and I know he'd be absolutely made up if people came to see his work and (only if you’re interested) had a chat with him about it.

He'll be there most afternoons/evenings and loves talking about photography.

There's a bar open on site too today and tomorrow if you need a little something to make the visit worthwhile haha. No pressure at all, but if you're in the area and curious about some (in my opinion) amazing B&W photography, it would genuinely make his year.

The exhibition is at Battersea Arts Centre on Lavender Hill in Clapham. Do your thing Reddit!

If you have any questions I’d be more than happy to answer. Enjoy the bank holiday all!

  1. Is it on this weekend? I might have missed the dates in the post

  2. Aw I’m a photographer and know what it’s like to be anxious about your work – it’s a bit far from where I am but if I find myself down south I’ll definitely pop in. How long is it on for?

  3. Thanks for all your upvotes! It’s only a 2 week exhibition so the first week is already done.

He made a little timetable for himself on days that he’ll be there – I can share that below

    FRI 23/05 – 17.30 – 21.30

    SAT 24/05 – 17.30 – 21.30

    MON 26/05 – 15.00 – 16.30 & 18.30 – 20.00

    TUE 27/05 – 15.00 – 16.30 & 18.30 – 20.00

    WED 28/05 – 15.00 – 16.30 & 18.30 – 20.00

    THU 29/05 – 15.00 – 16.30 & 18.30 – 20.00

    FRI 30/05 – 15.00 – 16.30 & 18.30 – 20.00

If you can’t make those times you might miss him but feel free to pop in and check out his photos regardless if you’re interested

  4. I can’t get along to see but know a few artists at that stage and getting an exhibition is a big leap, getting people there even bigger so hope it goes well for him.

Lovely photo, he’s timed the slow exposure really well and that must have taken some patients and perseverance to get right.

BTW, did he take that before or after the Animals Remix cover shot from Ebury Bridge?

  5. Send it to IanVisits, Time Out, London Calling etc, anyone who does rounds ups of what’s on. It may not make it into some of them now, but could help get the word out there further….
