Governor Jim Pillen joined President Donald J. Trump, members of the White House Cabinet, and other leaders at Thursday’s Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission event.
“We’re grateful for President Trump’s leadership and his attention to these issues,” said Gov. Pillen. “It’s an honor to be at the White House to highlight and advocate for Nebraska’s role in ‘Making America Healthy Again.’ Our farmers and ranchers raise the healthiest, safest, best tasting food on the planet — and science backs us up. As we feed the world — and as the first state in the nation to be able to ban taxpayer dollars from purchasing pop and energy drinks through SNAP — we’re leading and delivering meaningful results in partnership with the Trump White House.”
During the roundtable discussion, President Trump highlighted Nebraska’s first-in-the-nation waiver saying, “Earlier this week, we approved a SNAP waiver request from Nebraska so they can stop taxpayer dollars from being used to make children obese.”
Later in the event, President Trump also praised the work of farmers, ranchers, and the importance of American agriculture.
On Monday, Gov. Pillen hosted Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins to Nebraska where she signed the first-in-the-nation waiver to amend the statutory definition of food for purchase for SNAP. Effective January 1, 2026, taxpayers will no longer be subsidizing the purchase of soda or energy drinks in the State of Nebraska.
