Here’s a recent article on ZollikerNews (in German) about a long-delayed project in Wettingen by ATAI AG — the same developer behind earlier failed or abandoned projects in Zollikon and Knonau.

In this case, a protected building was partially demolished illegally, and years later the site is still inactive. Owners face serious issues: no garage access, unresolved sewer problems, and some apartments that are literally inaccessible.

One of ATAI’s board members is also a public official, which raises concerns about accountability.

Is this just a one-off pattern with this developer, or are these kinds of failures more common than they seem? How much protection do buyers or municipalities actually have?

Would be interested to hear others’ perspectives or experiences.

  1. If it were common, there would be no newspaper articles about it.
