  1. I’m more prone to fight for Europe than Italy.

Seriously, why would I fight side by side with a Calabrian ape, a Venetian mona or a sheep-shagger Sardinian? Smh

  2. Those 14% may or may not flip to 86% you never know with luigi

  3. You are only going to take my sheep from my cold dead hands

  4. Huh, so 14% of our people are liars? That’s a lower percentage than I thought.

  5. Ok now replace country by ”city” and add ”against the next big city”.

  6. We need to see how many people answered “not sure.”

Many Italians were just waiting to see who the other side was before picking a response.

  7. Serious for a sec, I actually think I’ve basically got this reasoning locked down.

I have lived in Finland and the U.K. Finns support conscription, Brits are terrified of it. And I’m almost certain the main reason is that Finns are exclusively going to war to defend their homeland. They trust that the conscription in place and their being called up to their homeland will only be in defence of their country and their values.

But fighting for your country isn’t just asking in it’s defence. It’s asking overall. Brits have been sent multiple times to fight for American or arbitrary interests which do not involve fighting for this country. If we had in law that we would exclusively fight in the defence of this country and regional allies (Portugal, Belgium etc.) these numbers would skyrocket. But we don’t, and we know it’s a risk that we get sent to Yemen or India or some other place we don’t want to die for, so why would we support our dying or fighting for our country there at all?

I think if you asked people if they would fight exclusively to defend their country, you’d get a different look.

There is also the reason that Finland is under threat and Britain isn’t, but I genuinely think that’s almost secondary.

  8. We’ve been getting fucked by our government for a while now, I myself made the grave mistake of only being 10 years old when the economic crisis happened. So they can go to the frontlines themselves for all I care

  9. actually i see no reason to fight for my country

  10. Fighting for your own country is stupid. Invading others on the other hand..

  11. I wonder how much the memorials of WWI and the absolute horror of it have influenced people in Belgium but also France & Germany.
I am willing to bet that a lot of people are happy to be in supporting industries or something but don’t fancy sitting in the trenches themselves.

Also I am sure the math changes when it’s against an actual opponent and not just slapping around someone the US has beef with.

  12. If Spain tried to invade Portugal, 71% of the spanish would help Portugal invade Spain (against the common enemy).

  13. They said if I want to fight for my “country”. Do I have to fight for those ungrateful pricks from Alto Adige? The unbearable assholes Lombardi? The southern leeches? Even worse, the ROMAGNOLI PATACA? Hell no.

Ask me if I want to fight for my city though (possibly against my neighbours).

  14. I see this as nationalism being low in countries that aren’t at imminent risk of invasion, so pretty good.

  15. I mean, that’s to be expected. You’ll find Italians to be *very* patriotic when it comes to food and culture, but for decades there has been a rampant sentiment of “why should I care for this country who has left me behind” and most Italians actively despise their country as an institution. That, and also the fact that we hate each other

  16. Do they mean defend our country or fight wherever we’re ordered to? One of them I could get behind, but blindly following orders has a bad reputation for a reason.

  17. Not this again. It all depends on how the question was asked.

I wouldn’t shoot children in the Middle East for my country. I would defend my country against Russia. Clear?

  18. It seems to me that the willingness to fight is particularly high in countries where there is at least a distant sense of threat.

Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Poland – Russia
    Greece – Turkey

  19. As always there are grey areas not reflected in such questions.
For example, if my government wants me to be part of an invasion Putin style, I would say go fuck yourselves. If you want to be an emperor do it yourself.
If another country decides just the opposite just because yes, not thrilled but it must be done.

  20. Bro most of us would rather fight *against* our country rather than *for* it. Historically speaking, **Italians don’t care**. About pretty much anything.

  21. I would like to know how this worded, would I be dropped in another nation to kill in the name of my country, absolutely not. Would I kill invaders at my shores in the defence of my loved ones … 100%.

  22. Bro, those numbers change every week. I have seen 4 different charts. This is clearly propaganda, or at least shared with a political goal in mind.

Oh, look at the weak gays in the west. Hahaha.
We questioned 100 “random” people and those are definitly representing all 100 million people.

  23. I would fight for my region, and even for my province.

But for my country? Nah, fuck ’em

  24. The question does not make a lot of sense to begin with.

‘Would you fight to protect your county?’, and

‘would you fight to expand your country’s borders?’

both fall under that generic question, yet they would define two very different situations
