I feel the newspapers only wrote about Dinorwig now to keep it in the public consciousness.
Why?
**Because they closed the visitor centre**
Is it correct that this is extremely inefficient as they also have to pump the water back up, which takes more energy than is produced? But this gets done when there is no surge in national power demand.
I’ve stood inside one of the valves when it was offline for maintenance….water trickling down the seams….
If you’re interested in this sort of technology, there’s a youtuber called Chris Boden that works in a US plant that is similar and shows more of the day to day problem it has from time to time. Just be careful which of his channels you follow as one is child friendly and one is definitely adult only.
