Starting today, May 26, citizens of the Republic of Moldova can apply for an identity card on an urgent basis, announced the Public Services Agency. The document is issued for a fee, and the fees vary depending on the term of execution, the fastest being on the day of the request, IPN reports.
Thus, the fee for obtaining the identity card on the same day is 1,160 lei. A document issued in one working day costs 940 lei, in five days – 730 lei, and in ten days – 510 lei. The new identity documents can be issued to all citizens starting from the age of 14 and, at the request of the legal representative, also from birth.
The identity card replaces the old-design identity card, but it is not mandatory for those who have a valid identity card, according to the Public Services Agency.
For those who request it for the first time, the identity card is issued free of charge within 20 working days, subject to availability. In total, 1 million such documents will be distributed free of charge, according to a Government decision.
The validity of the new identity card depends on the age of the holder: four years for children between 0 and 7 years old, seven years for those between 7 and 14 years old, and ten years for people between 14 and 70 years old. After 70 years, the document is valid for an indefinite period.
Since the introduction of the new documents, 18,903 identity cards have been issued so far. Of these, 2,872 were issued to persons under the age of 18, and the rest to those with full right to exercise. About 70% of the adults chose the option with an electronic signature.
