Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are spending Memorial Day weekend on separate continents, as the Duke of Sussex traveled halfway around the world for a work commitment.

On May 26, Prince Harry, 40, made a surprise appearance in Shanghai, China, at the Envision 2025 Global Partner Conference hosted by Trip.com Group. Attending in his role as founder of Travalyst — the sustainable travel initiative he launched in 2019 — the Duke delivered the keynote address.

While Harry was abroad, Meghan appeared to be staying close to home in Montecito. The Duchess of Sussex previously shared a sweet video with the couple’s daughter, Princess Lilibet, 3, suggesting a quiet family weekend in California.

Harry’s trip to China coincides with King Charles’ royal visit to Canada. The King arrived in Ottawa on May 26 amid an ongoing rift between father and son. Earlier, Harry revealed that his father “won’t speak” to him.

Travalyst is a not-for-profit coalition backed by major travel and tech leaders including Google, Mastercard, Visa, and Trip.com. During his speech, Harry emphasized the urgent intersection of climate and commerce, saying:

“Climate change isn’t just an environmental challenge –  it’s a critical business emergency, costing the global economy $143 billion dollars annually,” he said in a speech at the conference.

“Now is the moment for the industry to reaffirm its commitment to being a force for good. Challenges will undoubtedly rise, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my life, it’s that meaningful change never comes easily,” the Duke of Sussex continued. “The true measure of our commitment is how we respond when the path becomes difficult. We must never give up.”

Harry used his address to urge the travel sector in the Asia-Pacific region to lean into its commitments to support sustainability in travel and tourism, with an eye on climate goals.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex live in Montecito, California with their children Prince Archie, 6 and Princess Lilibet, 3. Meghan offered a glimpse into her Memorial Day weekend plans with a post on the Instagram account of her As ever lifestyle brand on Friday, May 23.

“Stir, sip, repeat — savoring moments slow and sweet this holiday weekend,” she captioned a new photo of herself, adding a twinkling star emoji. In the image, Meghan wears an apron over a sweater tank and jeans as she stirs a mixing bowl on what appears to be her kitchen island.

Meghan’s kitchen became a talking point earlier this year with the premiere of her Netflix series With Love, Meghan — especially because the show wasn’t filmed in her home that she shares with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie, 6 and Princess Lilibet, 3.

The eight-episode series followed the Duchess as she embraced her love of cooking, crafting, gardening, and entertaining. But as Meghan explained to PEOPLE, there was a very personal reason the cameras didn’t roll inside her actual kitchen.

“I wanted to protect that safe haven,” Meghan said in an exclusive interview. “We’re a close-knit family, and I love those moments— putting Lili down for a nap, having lunch together, having sacred time together at the end of the day.”

“Our kitchen is where Mama just cooks for the family, and with a crew of 80-plus people, that’s a lot of people to have in your house!” she added.

The Duchess of Sussex updated followers with another peek into her weekend on social media on Sunday, May 25 by posting a video of her beekeeping with Lilibet.

The footage shared to the Instagram Stories of her namesake profile and main page, @meghan, showed the Duchess of Sussex and her daughter twinning in white beekeeping suits and walking hand in hand. Meghan and Lilibet were filmed from behind as they walked towards an apiary, where Lilibet’s rainbow-colored rain boots stole the show.

Though Prince Archie didn’t appear in the clip, Meghan included what many fans saw as a subtle tribute to her son. The Duchess of Sussex set the video to the upbeat tune “Sugar, Sugar” by The Archies — a sweet nod to his first name.

Prince Harry and Meghan may be spending Memorial Day weekend apart, but they recently celebrated a special milestone together: their seventh wedding anniversary.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex marked the occasion on May 19, and according to Hello! magazine, they enjoyed a “romantic spa break” in Arizona to commemorate the day.

As Prince Harry immerses himself in philanthropic efforts and Meghan leans in to her commercial projects, insiders previously said the dynamic reflected a clear shift in the couple’s public lives.

“It’s clear that a twin-track approach is evolving,” a friend told PEOPLE.
