Watan-Asmâa Ouachan, President of the Muslim Council of Belgium, stated that the biggest challenge facing Muslims across Europe is Islamophobia.
Her remarks came during an interview with Anadolu Agency on the sidelines of the third edition of the Islamophobia Conference, held in Azerbaijan, where Anadolu is participating as a global media partner.
Ouachan emphasized that Islamophobia is not limited to Belgium, but is intensifying across most of Europe, deepening the difficulties faced by Muslim communities.
She added that laws and policies adopted in Belgium against Muslims are making their lives more difficult, specifically highlighting the ban on the hijab as a major obstacle.
Ouachan noted that Muslim women are facing severe challenges in finding jobs and continuing their education due to the hijab ban in Belgium.
She stressed that while the Muslim population in Belgium is nearing one million out of a total population of 13 million, sheer numbers alone are not enough to solve the problems Muslims face.
