Speculation that Vaughan Gething may quit the Senedd earlier than expected

  1. Any opinions on Gething aside this would be a spectacular waste of public money.

Edit: to have to hold a by-election, that is.

  2. I don’t see it.

He has very little to gain by leaving now. There are plenty of organisations who will employ a former First Minister, especially with good links in both the economy and health fields. He can afford to delay moving to the private sector a year.

He’s also been a good ‘party’ man over his career. Don’t see him doing something that will cause Labour a headache just to throw toys out of the pram.

Despite his torrid time as First Minister, I wouldn’t say a peerage is completely off the table either. First Black First Minister after all. Probably not likely any time soon, but he’s still relatively young (in political terms) and a few years on commissions and as chair of various boards could rehabilitate his reputation.

So plenty to lose, and not a lot to gain.

  3. I hope the door hits his arse on the way out.

What a fall from grace. The race-baiting resignation speech too. Fuck off out of it.

  4. guys a mug, what kind of person has a vote of no confidence against them and just continues to plough on regardless.
